Feeding Frenzy

Now that Sophie is eating some solids it has made meal times a bit more exciting. Below are videos of her first fruit (bananas) and first vegetable (peas). I'm sure you will have no problem guessing which is which. She has since tried sweet potatoes as well and they went over a lot better than the peas. She never eats a whole lot but seems pretty eager to enjoy this new feeling in her mouth (and on her chin and in her nose). Lest you are concerned, just know that Erik and I completely empathize with her feelings about the peas - we both wanted to gag just from smelling them. We didn't force it for long, but she tried them again a time or two and did much better.

Working Girl

Sophie and I made a little visit to Vanderbilt yesterday to see the girls from my old office. It was so fun to see everyone and it was the first time they had seen Sophie since she was 2 months old. She was completely mesmorized by all the new faces and eventually fell asleep while Elizabeth (see below) held her. I think she was just taking it all in so she could learn how it's done. She'll be ready for the Quinq Spring Fling in no time.

Day at the Park

Last week it was so nice so one day Sophie and I met Erik at a park for his lunch break. We sat by a pond with lots of ducks and geese, but Sophie seemed more interested in sitting in her car seat and looking at us. I suppose I should enjoy that while it lasts, and who can blame her? We are pretty fascinating.

Big Girl Food

When Sophie turned 4 months her pediatrician said it was a good time to start trying some solid foods (rice cereal, etc.), but for the first few weeks she was not interested in anything except spitting it out. While we were in VA, however, we tried it again and she LOVED it. So far she has just eaten rice cereal and some bananas, and granted about as much ends up in her nose and on her bib as in her mouth, but we're enjoying this new phase of babyhood.

First Flight

A week and 1/2 ago Sophie and I flew up to visit my parents in VA. I was a little nervous about the flight, especially when I found out every seat was full and I would have to hold her on my lap the whole way. However she did great both ways and made lots of new friends. God was so good to surround us with grandparents on the flight there, and on the way back we got to fly with our friends, the Ericsons, as they were headed to Nashville. So special thanks to Carl and Pam for all your assistance. This top picture is Sophie getting ready to board the plane. She was so excited for her first flight and could hardly contain herself.
Needless to say my parents were slightly overjoyed to see "us" (come on, I think everyone knows who they were really excited to see - I've faced the facts and gotten used to it, although they do try to make me feel wanted as well). From the picture of the three of them you can see that Sophie is starting to understand how exciting grandparent time is - it's like she knows already that they are going to spoil her rotten. We had a great time with them, although it was too short. Hopefully I can get some pictures from my mom to post in the days to come - she was the paparazzo while we were there.

Family Time

A couple of weeks ago we enjoyed an overnight visit from my brother, Aaron. He saw Sophie when she was a few weeks old but she was able to enjoy his visit a lot more this time. She seemed to really love playing with him - he may give Kyle and Peter a run for their money as the "Fun Uncle."

A few days later we got to see Uncle Pete and Aunt Jenny for a little bit. Jen gave Sophie a quick little physical and I think she got pretty good marks (including "hyperactive bowel sounds," which we understood better a couple of hours later when Erik got the privilege of changing her diaper). It's hard not to live closer to our family, but it's such a blessing when we get to see them.

Back in the Blogosphere

I'm so sorry I haven't posted in awhile. Two weeks ago I was working feverishly on a proofreading project, and last week Sophie and I were in VA for the week visiting my parents. Hopefully later in the week I can post some pictures from our trip - it was her first time in VA and her first time on an airplane. She did great on both flights and was such a joy all week - I think her grandparents were slightly thrilled to get to see her.

Here is a little video of Sophie having "Daddy Time" before we left on our trip. It didn't take her long to remember her daddy when we got home - he makes her laugh more than anyone else can.
