A Serious Matter

So I'm not sure, but I think Sophie may be teething. I have been thinking this off and on for a couple of weeks. Maybe it's just wishful thinking - not that I'm anxious for her to have teeth (ouch!), but I'm anxious to know there's a reason for some erratic behavior. She has been drooling like crazy for weeks, but now she is biting down on her fingers (and mine, and anything else she can get in her mouth, for that matter), has smelly gas (sorry for the non-mothers out there...Erik hates when I talk about this stuff) and is waking up multiple times in the night with bad gas and seemingly in a lot of pain (not to eat, just to scream). Of course this may not be teething - I've tried to see teeth in there, but her tongue does not cooperate with my fingers. It does look like the middle is raised a bit, but I could be imagining it. Anyway, if any of you moms out there have any tips for me I'd love to hear them. I've read a lot about Hyland's Teething Tablets, but as it turns out they have milk in them so she can't have them. I have a call in to her pediatrician to see about giving her a little Tylenol ocassionally for the pain, but I don't want to drug her too much. So we'll see what happens. Regardless, we all three are realizing that whenever it does happen, teething will be no laughing matter.

Pops & Gigi

Erik's parents came to visit Friday and stayed until Saturday afternoon. It was great to have them here, especially as they volunteered to babysit Friday night so Erik and I could go out on a little date. Unfortunately Sophie had a rough night Friday so none of us got much sleep, but she seemed to really enjoy relaxing with the grandparents.

A Family Walk

Sunday was a nice warm day so Erik and I decided to

take Sophie on a walk. Normally we take her in her car seat/stroller, but we wanted her to actually be able to look around so this time I carried her in the sling. Erik was concerned that it was too bright for her so he insisted on her wearing this ultra-cool beach hat. So while we were enjoying the unseasonable weather, Erik's parents were surviving a devastating tornado in Prattville, AL. We are so glad you're both okay (and Quincy as well) and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Going to Church

Sophie seems to really like being at church. She is so aware of what's going on around her and loves to be around lots of people. She's started going to the nursery and this is great for all three of us. This past Sunday Erik and I had to be there early so we put her in the sleeping room in the nursery in her car seat and let her sleep for awhile. The nursery worker later told me that after awhile she heard Sophie in there just talking to herself and playing for 15-20 minutes. Then she came out and just stared at the other kids. I know I need to enjoy this stage because very soon she will be so busy and I'm sure it will be next to impossible to get her to stay still. So for now we'll enjoy the peacefulness and look forward with some fear and trepidation.

4 Months!

Sophie turned 4 months old last Thursday, so we went to her doctor today for a check-up and some super fun shots. She is growing steadily (13lb 2oz, 25 1/4 inches long). Apparently she is in the 5oth percentile for weight and the 75th-90th percentile for length. So once again it looks like she's taking after the Sandberg side of the family and will be tall and skinny. I already have trouble with some of her pants that are the right length but way too big around her tummy. I was a little concerned about her weight gain, but the doctor was really pleased with it. We're going to start some solid foods now, which I think will be good because this kid gets really impatient while eating. She wants it and she wants it now.

Here are a couple of pics of our future middle hitter or power forward in all her glory:

Giggles

Sophie has started laughing a bit and we are loving that. Unfortunately she gets a little camera shy when we try to video, but here is a clip with a few little giggles:

Long Weekend

Sorry it has been a few days since the last post - we had a long weekend due to a great conference at our church. Now that we are back in the weekday routine, however, hopefully I will be a little better about posting. Here are a few pics I took a couple of weeks ago.

Happy Birthday Mom!

Sophie wanted to wish her "Gigi" (a.k.a Grandma Carol) a happy birthday today! One year ago today we announced to Erik's parents (via Carol's birthday present) that we were expecting the little Sophster, and here she is!

"Let's be friends forever..."

"...Yeah, forever." These are the words I imagine Sophie was saying to her new friends Cate and Ava this past week. She got to spend some quality time with Ava Newell and Cate Gunn ("quality" meaning time spent in car seats side-by-side, oblivious of the other's existence). We did try to get her and Ava to roll around together, but neither one was too interested in looking at the other. Oh well - we mothers plan to force them to be friends, so they pretty much have no choice in the matter.

Be a Good Citizen

Sophie just wanted to remind all those in states with primaries today to be good citizens and go out and vote!

All Dressed Up

Saturday Sophie and I went to a baby shower for her new friend Riley Brooks (who should arrive sometime in early April). In honor of the occasion (and as an excuse to wear more pink) Sophie was dressed to the nines as she had her first experience with a skirt, tights and shoes. Here are some shots from the fashion show we had when we got home. The shower was a nice treat for both of us as Sophie was passed around and got to see lots of new faces instead of being stuck with boring old Mom, and Mom got to relax a bit and fellowship with some great ladies.

The Big Roll

On Wednesday Sophie starting rolling over like crazy. When I filmed this video she had been rolling to her right and had done so 4 or 5 times. I didn't even know she could roll to her left, but she surprised me as I shot this video (hence the thump you hear when she hits the back of the crib - don't worry, she didn't even notice it). Erik finally got to see her roll, but since then she hasn't wanted to show off anymore. Stay tuned...
